40 butterflies

We have 40 butterflies. We started with 26 this morning and by the end of the morning class we had 40. This has been an exciting journey to watch with the students. I hope the students have enjoyed it. Below are some pictures taken of a butterfly after it emerged from its’ chrysalis.

We will release some butterflies after each program on Monday and Tuesday.

Butterflies

We started the day with ten butterflies and we are now counting 23. I am sure there will be more tomorrow morning. The students were able to come into my office today to see the butterflies.

The question I get asked a lot is about the red spots that you can see in the pictures. That is extra pigment from the butterfly’s wings.

Caterpillar Day 15

I moved the chrysalises to the butterfly house today. We have two butterfly houses and each house has 20 chrysalises. The waiting begins again. We should start seeing butterflies next week.

Caterpillar Day 14

Today we had 39 chrysalises and one caterpillar hanging in it’s “J” shape. All of the students in the Tuesday/Thursday classes were able to come into my office to see the chrysalises. Tomorrow I start moving the chrysalises into the butterfly houses.

I hope all of the moms had a wonderful Mother’s Day!!
